Jenny Akhtar, Tenor Horn

A native of Frederick, MD, Jenny attended West Virginia University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in music. At WVU she was a member of the Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Marching Band and Pep Band as well as several chamber ensembles.  In addition, she was very active with Bands of America and traveled across the country each week to coordinate high-school marching band and concert band competitions.  Although now a tenor horn player with FCBB, she actually began on woodwinds, before she finally came to her senses and is now almost exclusively a brass player.

Jenny is musically active in the Kansas City metro area.   She has played with many local ensembles including the Heart of America Wind Symphony where she played bassoon and euphonium, the JC Winds in which she played bassoon and euphonium, and she played euphonium in the Kansas City Brass Project and with the UMKC tuba/euphonium studio.  Currently, she plays euphonium in the Sunflower Brass Choir.

Jenny moved to Kansas City in 2000, and is currently in pursuit of a Master of Science degree in Accounting at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, to eventually to become a CPA.  The former Ms. Ridge became a wife in June of 2004, had a son in February 2006, and most recently a daughter November of 2007.  So although she can be caught furiously processing tax returns in the Spring currently her occupation is more along the lines of perfecting the art of motherhood.
