Stephen Molloy is currently an Artist in
Residence at Missouri Western State University where he provides
instruction in applied trumpet. He also coaches chamber brass
ensembles and a jazz combo. Previously he was the studio jazz
ensemble director at Mid-America Nazarene University where he also
taught applied trumpet. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree
from St. Cloud State University and a Master of Music degree in
Trumpet Performance from the University of Kansas.
While attending the University of Kansas,
Molloy taught studio trumpet, directed the KU Jazz Ensemble II, and
was a member of the Kansas Brass Quintet, a resident faculty
ensemble. He has been a musician for Walt Disney World and has
toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra as its lead trumpeter and
soloist, an engagement which included a six week tour of Japan and
two recordings: "Here We Go Again" (Victor Records) and Barry
Manilow's "Singin' with the Big Bands" (Arista Records). He can be
heard on local recordings of the Kansas City Boulevard Big Band, Tim
Whitmer, Mike Metheny, The Vince Bilardo Orchestra, and the Kansas
Brass Quintet. He has also been a soloist with the Atchison
Symphony, the University of Kansas Symphony, the Missouri Western
State College Symphonic Winds, and the St. Joseph Symphony.
In addition, Molloy maintains an active
free-lancing schedule, performing in a variety of organizations
including the Brookside Brass Quintet, the Fountain City Brass Band,
the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, the Kansas City Brassworks, the
Trilogy Big Band, the Boulevard Big Band, the Worlds of Fun
Powerhose Band, and the Starlight Theater Orchestra. He has
performed with the Kansas City Symphony and is currently a member of
the St. Joseph Symphony. He is a member of the Kansas City
Federation of Musicians and the International Trumpet Guild.
