Formed in 2002, The Fountain City Brass Band has made a meteoric rise to become one of Kansas City's most successful arts organisation for 2007.
This all volunteer ensemble is a cross section of professional musicians, college/university music professors/students, and music educators from across the Kansas City metro and from as far away as England.
In the late 19th Century, brass bands were one of the world's most widespread forms of amateur music making and in the US there were over 18,000 bands that made music accessible to the new working and middle. Mindful of its responsibility towards this rich, but now endangered historical tradition, the Fountain City Brass Band is committed to the revival of this genre.
Concert seasons provide an enjoyable mix of classical, film, jazz and pop favourites, and their ground-breaking Fountain City Youth Brass Academy, open to all brass and percussion players in the Kansas City area, is testament to the dedication and community spirit of the group.
