FCBB at the 2006 North American Brass Band Championships

FCBB Shines at NABBA 2006!

0.4!---That's how close the FCBB came to capturing its first North American Brass Band Championship earlier this month in Louisville, KY. In the closest result in years the band was just topped by ten time champions Brass Band of Columbus and a very inspired James Madison University Band. The FCBB turned in its finest competition performance to date, drawing favor of the judges including one that graded the band at 99 out of 100 on both pieces. The band would like to thank all that were involved with this years' competition and a special thanks to Indiana University-Southeast for providing their wonderful facility.

In addition to the band's performance, many of the FCBB's fine soloists participated in the Friday solo competitions. The band had four winners including two first prizes. Flugel player Doug Reneau won first place in the high brass slow-melody competition performing the second movement of Eric Ewazen's Sonata for Trumpet. Also in high brass, principal cornetist Alan Wenger took second place in the technical category with Arban's Variation sur Norma.

In the low brass portion, solo euphoniumist Lee Harrelson won first place in the low brass technical category performing Peter Graham's Brillante, and solo baritonist (playing euphonium) Will Hess took second place in the Low Brass Slow-Melody category with the beautiful second movement of Philip Sparke's first Euphonium Concerto.

SUPPORT YOUR BAND

The Fountain City Brass Band is an American Heritage Foundation.

As a non-profit organization, the Fountain City Brass Band relies on grants and its corporate and private supporters for financial assistance. Without these generous tax deductible donations, our band could not continue recruiting talented players for the band or giving this area the same quality programs and guest artists.

Tickets sales account for only half of the costs of each concert. Our goal is to keep ticket prices within an affordable range so that all persons may have access to the performances. In order to continue giving the community the same level of quality band music, the band must raise funds to offset our costs.

Our "Friends of the FCBB" can choose from a variety of ways to assist us in producing the same exquisite programs, often with gifted guest artists brought in from all over the world. Outright gifts of cash, planned gifts and fundraisers are all ways individuals and groups can ensure the continued delivery of the timeless masterpieces and contemporary pops.

For more assistance on planned giving and how to participate in our fundraisers, simply call our office at (816) 305-4894 or email us at fcbb@fcbb.net.
