2007 U.S. Open Champions!

| Fountain City Wins U.S. Open Brass Band Championship |
|

|
2007 has certainly been a good year for "Kansas City's Own" Fountain City Brass Band (FCBB), as it has posted yet another record score at a major U.S. brass band competition. Under the direction of UMKC's Dr. Joseph Parisi, the FCBB completed its sweep of this year's two American majors by winning the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships in Chicago this past weekend. The Band won its first major competition back in April at the North American Brass Band Championships.
The U.S. Open is an invitation only, entertainment competition where bands perform twenty-five minutes of music of their own choosing, much of which is set to innovative choreography. In addition to being named the 2007 Grand Champions the FCBB won cash prizes, and the captions for Most Entertaining and Best Soloist. The Best soloist was FCBB cornetist Raquel Rodriquez, who enthralled the audience with her presentation of J.B. Arban's Carnival of Venice. The performance not only earned Raquel the title of 2007 U.S. Open Solo Champion, but also a brand new custom built, and engraved, Besson Prestige Cornet, which retails for around $3,000. Finishing directly behind the FCBB was the reigning U.S. Open Champions, Brass Band of Central Florida from Orlando and the Wingates Band from England.

Vote For Fountain City! |
| |
The FCBB has been nominated for "Newcomer of the Year" by 4barsrest.com. 4barsrest.com is "the world's most visited brass website" and the FCBB is honored to be acknowledged by this UK based operation. Please visit their website and cast your vote! The FCBB strongly encourages any voters to write in votes for Joe Parisi (conductor of the year) and Raquel Rodriquez (player of the year). Raquel not only won the 2007 U.S. Open Solo Competition, but also first place at the North American Brass Band Championships High Brass Technical Competition. As for Dr. Parisi, it's hard to imagine any another conductor having a more profound influence on his ensemble since taking over the FCBB in January. Herre is what 4barsrest.com has to say about the FCBB's magical 2007.
Fountain City Band
A band that made a real impression in 2007, Fountain City was a new name to the lips of just about everyone this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
They won the North American Brass Band Championships, then came over here and performed admirably at the Masters where they did themselves proud and made many new friends as well as taking part in the Whit Friday march contests. To round off a pretty fine y6ear they them added the US Open title too.
A new name for many but one we are sure we will hear more about in the coming years. |

FCBB Spotlight:
St. Joseph Community Chorus |

(Spotlight features FCBB members, guest artists and events) |

FCBB
teams up with SJCC for three holiday performances.
The St. Joseph Community Chorus, founded in 1980, presents interesting, challenging, and diverse programs of choral music from the classical to contemporary throughout the Midwestern United States. This ensemble is the largest all-volunteer performing organization in Northwest Missouri and enjoys a rich history of outstanding choral performances in many beautiful settings.
In addition to its three-concert season, the chorus collaborates with the St. Joseph Symphony each year performing such works as the Haydn Creation, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Britten’s War Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. For the past several years, the chorus has performed fall exchange concerts with another community chorus. Two holiday concerts are presented annually and feature favorite works of the Christmas season. The chorus is frequently asked to perform for various celebrations and memorable occasions.
In 1996, the chorus toured Great Britain performing several concerts in the cathedrals of England and Wales. This tour included a performance for the Rotary Festival in Colchester, England, our sister city. In the summer of 2001, SJCC was honored to receive two unique invitations. Eighty-eight of the chorus’ 110 voices traveled to the state 2002 MMEA convention to perform as one of eleven choruses on the convention program. Forty-four choristers toured to perform in Budapest, Vienna and Prague and participated in the 2002 International Choral Festival in Innsbruck, Austria.
From within the chorus, a select Chamber Choir was created in 1987. It performs a wide variety of chamber choral music for numerous events besides presenting a spring concert as part of the season series. This past season, the Chamber Choir presented a Victorian Madrigal Feast that benefits the Endowed Scholarship established in 2000. This chamber ensemble is invited frequently to perform at public and private events during the year and will perform on each of the chorus’ three subscription concerts.
The St. Joseph Community Chorus always strives to adhere to its mission statement that is to foster the enjoyment and appreciation of good choral music among its membership and the community at large by providing an organization of the highest musical caliber to present exceptional performances of choral literature. We take pride in the fact that we regularly involve over ninety singers from Northwest Missouri in the creative process of singing together. The chorus is a significant musical ensemble helping to bring the college and community together in an artistically meaningful way.

SUPPORT YOUR BAND
The Fountain City Brass Band is an American Heritage Foundation.
As a non-profit organization, the Fountain City Brass Band relies on grants and its corporate and private supporters for financial assistance. Without these generous tax deductible donations, our band could not continue recruiting talented players for the band or giving this area the same quality programs and guest artists.
Tickets sales account for only half of the costs of each concert. Our goal is to keep ticket prices within an affordable range so that all persons may have access to the performances. In order to continue giving the community the same level of quality band music, the band must raise funds to offset our costs.
Our "Friends of the FCBB" can choose from a variety of ways to assist us in producing the same exquisite programs, often with gifted guest artists brought in from all over the world. Outright gifts of cash, planned gifts and fundraisers are all ways individuals and groups can ensure the continued delivery of the timeless masterpieces and contemporary pops.
For more assistance on planned giving and how to participate in our fundraisers, simply call our office at (816) 305-4894 or email us at fcbb@fcbb.net.
Tax deductible cash gifts may be mailed to Fountain City Brass Band, Inc., PO Box 7119
