Congratulations and Thanks! The FCBB would like to congratulate trombonist Nathan Dishman on winning a trombone position with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. Nate has been a dedicated member of the FCBB for the past two seasons and with his new appointment will have to leave the band as a full time member immediately following the September 10th concert. His talent and sense of humor will be missed, but the FCBB wishes him the best of luck in what promises to be a fine career.

FCBB Spotlight: Nate Gay

(Spotlight features FCBB members, guest artists and events)

The FCBB's 2006 U.S. Open Soloist - Each year the FCBB conducts an "in house" solo competition to determine who will be the band's featured soloist at the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships and at other major performances throughout the season. This year's winner is euphoniumist Nate Gay, who ran away with the competition performing the final movement of Vladimir Cosma's Euphonium Concerto.

Nate Gay recently graduated from the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri - Kansas City with a MM in Euphonium Performance. While at UMKC, he studied euphonium with Tom Stein and bass trombone with Dr. JoDee Davis.  He received a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies and a K-12 Instrumental Music Teaching Certificate from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO.

Nate has been a member of the FCBB for three seasons and most recently performed at the 2006 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference held in Denver.  His achievements include: Winner, 2005 UMKC Concerto/Aria competition; First Place, 2004 MMTA Collegiate Brass Competition; First Place, 2004 MTNA National Collegiate Artist Solo Brass Competition; Semi-Finalist, 2004 ITEC Artist Division Solo Euphonium Competition; and Winner, 1999, 2000 and 2002 Soloist Showcase at MSU.  He has soloed with the MSU Wind Ensemble and has been a guest artist with the MSU Orchestra and the Springfield Symphony.

Nate currently lives in Lathrop, Missouri with his wife Arah and teaches band in the Braymer C-4 School District.  His responsibilities include 4 concert bands, a jazz band, pep band, marching band and 2 theory classes.

Conductor Gets a New Gig! The band would also like to congratulate their Principal Conductor, Dr. Jason Rinehart, on being appointed the Director of Bands at St. Louis Community College. The FCBB is most grateful that in spite of a near eight hour round trip commute to rehearsal each week that Jason has decided to continue leading the band throughout the 2006-2007 season.

SUPPORT YOUR BAND

The Fountain City Brass Band is an American Heritage Foundation.

As a non-profit organization, the Fountain City Brass Band relies on grants and its corporate and private supporters for financial assistance. Without these generous tax deductible donations, our band could not continue recruiting talented players for the band or giving this area the same quality programs and guest artists.

Tickets sales account for only half of the costs of each concert. Our goal is to keep ticket prices within an affordable range so that all persons may have access to the performances. In order to continue giving the community the same level of quality band music, the band must raise funds to offset our costs.

Our "Friends of the FCBB" can choose from a variety of ways to assist us in producing the same exquisite programs, often with gifted guest artists brought in from all over the world. Outright gifts of cash, planned gifts and fundraisers are all ways individuals and groups can ensure the continued delivery of the timeless masterpieces and contemporary pops.

For more assistance on planned giving and how to participate in our fundraisers, simply call our office at (816) 305-4894 or email us at fcbb@fcbb.net.
