The FCYBA Youth Band is comprised of brass and percussion students ages 17 (or high school senior) and under. They made their first competitive appearance at the North American Brass Band championships in March of 2015 taking first place in the Youth Section, a title that was defended in 2016.
Jennifer Oliverio, Music Director
Dr. Jennifer Oliverio currently works as Adjunct Professor of Brass in the Department of Music at Missouri Western State University and as the Band Director at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Overland Park, Kansas. Jen received her Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College in Trumpet Performance and Instrumental Education, and completed her Master of Music Degree from the University of Arkansas with a major in Trumpet Performance. She completed her doctorate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Trumpet Performance with a certificate from the Preparing Future Faculty program in Career Preparation and Higher Education Teaching.
Jen has been a member of the Fountain City Brass Band since 2013 and has performed with ensembles like the Alabama Symphony, the South Dakota Symphony, and the Colorado MahlerFest Orchestra. She has performed at numerous conferences and competitions including the International Women’s Brass Conference, the International Trumpet Guild Conference, and the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival to name a few. Some of Jen’s accomplishments include winning second place in the Graduate Solo Division of the 2014 National Trumpet Competition and winning first place in the Adult High Brass-Technical Division of the North American Brass Band Championships in 2016. Jen is an Eclipse sponsored artist.
Patrick Oliverio, Music Director
Patrick began his Music Education in Sherwood, Arkansas. After graduating high school, he accepted a full scholarship to attend the University of Arkansas to study Music Performance (Trumpet Emphasis) and Music Education with Professor Dr. Richard Rulli.
During his time at the U of A, Patrick was able to perform with the University Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra Jazz Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and Chamber Music Ensemble. Some of the highlights of these performances were playing principal trumpet on Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies 4 & 6, Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Bernstein’s West Side Story, Hindemith’s Symphony, and Holst’s The Planets.
Patrick also had the pleasure of performing with The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Arkansas Philharmonic, and The Fulbright Brass Quintet. During his undergraduate studies, he was awarded 1st and 2nd place at the state and regional level of the MTNA Soloist competition. He also won the International Trumpet Guild’s Scholarship Competition in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and was a participant in master classes featuring Wiff Rudd, Allen Vizzutti, The American Brass Quintet, John Aley, Rex Richardson, and Julian Kaplan. Patrick has studied with phenomenal teachers such as Frank Campos, Dr. Kim Dunnick, Dr. Richard Rulli, and Dr. Keith Benjamin. In 2017 Patrick won the Graduate Division of the National Trumpet Competition in Denver, Colorado.
Since his time at the University of Arkansas, he has moved to Kansas City with his wife Jennifer Oliverio. In 2013, Patrick joined the award-winning group the Fountain City Brass Band. Since joining the group, they have won their 7th US Open Competition and 5th North American Brass Band Championship. He also got to travel with the group to Estes Park, Colorado to perform for the Highlands Irish/Scottish Festival in 2014 and 2015.
Patrick is currently attending the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance for a Masters in Music Performance. Patrick currently teaches middle school and high school trumpet students from the Kansas City Metro. Patrick, Jennifer, and their two cats reside in Overland Park, Kansas.
