Who We Are
Founded in 2002, the Fountain City Brass Band is one of the most acclaimed and innovative brass and percussion ensembles in the United States. Based in Kansas City, the band is dedicated to the rich traditions of British-style brass band music while pushing boundaries through compelling performances, diverse collaborations, and award-winning recordings.
Whether performing in concert halls, festivals, or community events, the Fountain City Brass Band inspires audiences of all ages through powerful storytelling and the unique sonority of brass band.
What to expect
Expect a captivating, professionally paced concert from a high-energy ensemble known for precision, power, and passion. The programs are diverse and thoughtfully curated—ranging from classical transcriptions to jazz, original brass works, and popular favorites—designed to engage both seasoned listeners and newcomers.
The performances are often enhanced by subtle choreography and engaging stage presence, with a charismatic conductor who introduces each piece in a warm, conversational style. It’s theatrical without being overdone, striking a perfect balance between showmanship and musical integrity. Joseph Parisi
Music Director
Joseph Parisi is a Curator’s Professor at the UMKC Conservatory where he conducts the Conservatory Wind Ensemble and serves as a conducting and music education faculty member. Parisi is recognized globally for his work as a clinician, conductor, performing artist, pedagogue, and scholar. As Parisi embarks on his 20th year at the UMKC Conservatory, he continues collaborating with renowned artists, commissioning new pieces for wind ensemble, chamber winds, symphonic brass, and soloists. He has an extensive recording dossier as a performer and conductor and is recognized, as “a vibrant force on the podium, who inspires all of the musicians under his baton. He is a wonderfully collaborative person whose energy is infectious” – David Hickman, Summit Brass.
