2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Kansas City’s Own, Fountain City Brass Band.  In those 20 years the band grew from one UMKC student’s dream into the premiere British style brass band in the United States. Along the way it has presented countless concerts on multiple continents, won the North American Brass Band Championships 8 times, the U.S. Open Brass Band Championships 10 times, and became first band in over 50 years, and the only band from the United States to ever win a major brass band competition on U.K. soil. 

In 2007, with its mission to inspire young musicians of all ability levels to achieve a high standard of musicianship…and to foster a life-long love of music…the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy was born. The FCYBA is as no-cut program and regularly serves up to four youth brass bands throughout the Kansas City metro. 

To celebrate the 20th anniversary season, Fountain City will launch two fund-raising initiatives to solidify the next chapters of these great organizations. 

The ‘Futures Foundation’ will increase the scope, inclusivity,  and accessibility of the Academy; and ‘Friends of Fountain City” will build awareness and brand recognition, as well as increase the overall stability of the Fountain City Brass Band.
