Whitney Schweiger
Whitney Schweiger is a horn player, band director, and performer in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Whitney is currently the Co-Director of Bands at Knob Noster Schools, which serve the rural community of Knob Noster, MO and the Whiteman Air Force Base. During her time there, Knob Noster Bands and its students have received numerous I Ratings at events and performances throughout Missouri. Whitney has started initiatives at Knob Noster Middle School such as re-establishing a middle school Jazz Band, introducing students to their first Solo and Ensemble event, and creating a Summer Lessons Program. Additionally, she has grown incoming middle school band enrollment by over 35% from the previous year.
Whitney received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where she performed in numerous ensembles including the Conservatory Wind Symphony, Conservatory Wind Ensemble, Conservatory Orchestra, and Roo Horn Studio. Whitney also served as the NAfME-C president during her time at UMKC. She was honored to study under influential mentors and musicians such as Marty Hackleman, Alberto Suarez, Denise Tryon, Joseph Parisi, and Steven Davis.
Whitney’s first experience with Brass Band began in 2017 when she joined the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy as a tenor horn player. She performed with the FCYBA’s Honor Band for three seasons as a high school student and was a part of several of the program’s winning performances in the North American Brass Band Championships youth sections. She continued performing in the Academy Band during her college years and has since begun performing with the FCBB for various local concerts and competitions. Whitney dedicates much of her passion for music to the influence that brass band has had in her life and is committed to furthering the musical outreach and education of brass band in the Kansas City area.
Whitney currently lives in Warrensburg, MO and enjoys spending time with her fiancé Jeremy and their puppy Koba, and performing with the local Warrensburg Community Band.
