Jamey Mitchell
Jamey Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Alabama, where he studied under Michael Dunn, and a Master of Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was mentored by composer and performer John Stevens.
During his time at the University of Alabama, Jamey was a member of the award-winning University of Alabama Tuba Quartet, received the I.T.E.A. Solo Tuba Artist Award at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Minneapolis, MN, and performed as a guest soloist with the Jack Daniel’s Silver Cornet Band. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he assisted in studio instruction and maintained an active freelance career in the Upper Midwest.
Jamey has served as the Principal Tubist with La Orquesta Sinfónica de Salta in Argentina and has performed with the Green Bay Symphony, La Crosse Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet, and Kansas City Opera. He has also collaborated with renowned artists such as Wycliffe Gordon, Arturo Sandoval, Christian Lindberg, Samuel Ramey, Audra McDonald, Art Garfunkel, and the Violent Femmes.
Jamey is a founding member of the Fountain City Brass Band, and was previously the Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Washburn University. He currently directs the orchestras at Blue Springs South High School in Blue Springs, MO, and enjoys life with his wife and daughter.
