What a weekend of great music and absolutely fabulous playing! We had a blast collaborating with composer/conductor @johandemeij and guest trombonist @marshallgilkesmusic Thank you to all of the students (and parents) that took part in our 2024 FCYBA Expo and Instrumental Impressions educational events. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Attention all KC area middle/high/college students. The 2024 Brass Expo is getting close.

The Expo is a great way to introduce new members to the brass band genre and the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy. Brass and percussionists of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in a FREE day of rehearsals and clinics culminating in a side-by-side concert with the award-winning Fountain City Brass Band.

In 2024, the Brass Expo will be bigger and better than ever. The event will span two weekends packed with thrilling performances and interactive sessions. On Sunday, September 15, students will have the unique opportunity to join Fountain City Brass Band members in rehearsals and clinics at St. James Academy. And that’s not all! On Sunday, September 22, those who attended the first weekend can showcase their skills and join the Fountain City Brass Band in a concert under the baton of none other than the world-renowned composer and conductor Johan de Meij, as well as perform with Grammy-nominated, international trombone superstar, Marshall Gilkes. The venue for the concert is the stunning Folly Theater, located in the heart of downtown Kansas City.

What a fantastic way to wrap up the 2023-2024 concert season by performing alongside the fantastic William Baker Festival Singers and the inimitable organist Jan Kraybill in Kansas City’s world-class Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts for the opening concert of the NPM National - National Association of Pastoral Musicians! We think one attendee put it best by saying someone should start a GoFundMe to replace the roof at the Kauffman Center because it was just blown off!! Sharing the stage with these iconic Kansas City musical institutions was an honor and privilege.

The band’s next performance in Kansas City will take place in the historic Folley Theater on Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 PM and will feature the music of Johan de Meij and one of the world’s finest trombonists, Marshall Gilkes. Tickets go on sale August 1st.

Join us for the season finale concert by the award-winning Fountain City Brass Band, conducted by principal guest conductor Roger Oyster, on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 7:30 PM in the Bell Cultural Events Center at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas.

You won’t want to miss Roger Oyster’s incredible insights into the repertoire, gained from his distinguished career with some of the country’s finest orchestras. The concert features works by celebrated orchestral composers such as Berlioz, Dvorak, Strauss, and Vaughan Williams, and the talented Dr. Jennifer Oliverio will perform Joaquín Rodrigo’s beautiful ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ on the flugelhorn.
